The Cardozo ADR Competition Honor Society (ADRCHS) is a student-run mooting team and honor society led primarily by its 3L Executive Board, with the support of faculty advisors. Formed in 2014, ADRCHS provides an opportunity for future attorneys to learn and master the art of effective dispute resolution.
ADRCHS selects approximately thirty Staff Editors each year from the rising 2L class. The selected students begin their exposure to negotiation, mediation, and arbitration theory with an in-depth training called “ADR Moot Camp,” prior to the start of the fall semester. While there, they cultivate the foundational skills for resolving legal disputes from professors and experts in the field, including Robyn Weinstein, Andrea Schneider, and Stephan Wah.
The students continue their training during the academic year through an executive board-run class and continuous preparation for domestic and international competitions. These competitions simulate real life negotiation, representation in mediation, mediation, and arbitration models for resolving disputes. Coaches include 3L executive board members, alumni, Cardozo Law faculty members and practitioners in the field. For their work, students are eligible to receive academic credit on par with journals.
In addition, ADRCHS hosts the annual Cardozo Invitational Negotiation on Entertainment, Media and the Arts (CINEMA) in the fall and an intra-school negotiation competition for in the spring.
