Canterbury City Council is the district council for Canterbury, Herne Bay, Whitstable and 24 surrounding villages.
Looking after the local area and the people who make it special is at the heart of what we
do, delivering more than 70 services to residents, businesses and visitors.
The council is formed of 39 councillors, who are elected by local residents to represent them in making decisions about how the district is governed. Councillors work closely with council staff to implement those decisions and deliver services.
Services include waste collection, planning, housing, culture and leisure facilities, open spaces, parking, street cleaning and regulatory functions such as environmental health, licensing, council tax and business rate collection.
Kent County Council delivers some services to our district and these are education, highways, social services, recycling centres and libraries.
Kent Police and the Fire and Rescue Service work with us in partnerships such as the Community Safety Unit who deal with anti-social behaviour and crime prevention.
Council services can be accessed online at www.canterbury.gov.uk.
