Cambridge Central Mosque is Europe’s 1st eco-friendly mosque and Cambridge’s first purpose-built mosque which opened its doors to the public on 24th April 2019.
The facility is dedicated to the spiritual and social welfare of the city’s estimated six thousand Muslims, including many visiting students, but also serves as a cultural bridge fostering greater understanding between communities. It has a strong educational component, providing an infrastructure and support for learning and research.
The Mosque does not follow or expect adherence to any particular school of Islam and welcomes worshippers from every part of the Muslim family.
Reflecting Islam’s contribution to contemporary debates over sustainability, the Mosque incorporates significant design features that minimise carbon emission and emphasise the role of faith in promoting responsible management of the earth’s resources.
