Welcome to Crucial Cellars. We are a Sussex based online wine merchant specialising in high quality, great value wines mainly from France and Spain. Over many years we have sought out original wines, often from small scale artisan growers, many of whom produce organically and in small quantities. Our list is not long but is highly selective. For every wine on our list, we have probably tasted fifty others which did not make the grade. We believe that as wine drinkers become more discerning they are looking to drink something more subtle and complex than most of the often bland, high volume offerings on the supermarket shelf. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay can make some very good wines but we are especially interested in indigenous grape varieties which are suited to their individual vineyard sites. How about trying a bottle with some Ugni blanc, Negrette or Tempranillo blanco? This is a golden age for the wine lover and although there is a great deal of indifferent wine being made there are some superb bottles in the £8 to £20 range in which we specialise.
