CEPANI, the Belgian Centre for Arbitration and Mediation, was founded in 1969 under the auspices of the Belgian National Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of Belgian Enterprises. Today, it is a self-governing non-profit entity and the main center for arbitration in Belgium!
Internationally, it maintains relations with similar centers abroad and promotes Brussels as an arbitration hub.
At the moment, CEPANI comprises around 260 members from Belgium and abroad. Membership of CEPANI is open to everyone with a specific interest in arbitration, mediation or other forms of alternative dispute resolution. You can find more information on membership at www.cepani.be!
CEPANI has a twofold goal:
Firstly, CEPANI supports arbitration and other dispute resolution proceedings.
This means it designates arbitrators, mediators, experts or independent thirds, monitors the course of the procedure and provides financial and juridical services. CEPANI was moreover selected to oversee .be domain name disputes.
Secondly, it works to promote the practice of arbitration, mediation and other forms of ADR nationally as well as internationally. To this end, the center organises lectures, colloquiums, seminars, a scientific prize and the publication of books.
CEPANI offers Arbitration and Mediation as well as other conciliation Rules. These Rules were updated as recently as July 1, 2020. They can be found in multiple languages on our website (www.cepani.be).
