The purpose of the CASTODIAN Foundation is to protect and save the lives of millions of people worldwide, the MOST vulnerable road users, who are (or should be) wearing helmets.
Our Mission: Fewer traffic casualties, by more people consciously wearing safe(r) helmets!
Our Motto: Guarding Heads. Saving Lives.
From our research we identified the following 7 Factors that together determine whether a helmet - ANY helmet - is actually SAFE for ITS USER. These 7 Factors are the foundation of all our activities.
A helmet that is safe for its user, is
1. correctly certified for its intended use
2. without damage or defect
3. not too old (< 7 years from date of manufacture)
4. clean outside, hygienic inside
5. properly fitted
6. clearly visible
7. used as intended
Together with partners, (motor-)cyclists and stakeholders, we create awareness and change of behaviour by providing knowledge, products and services that make ANY helmet the safest helmet for its user, Before, During and After a Crash.
We are driven by the United Nations SDG 3, Target 6 - to HALVE the number of global deaths and injuries from road traffic accidents by 2030 and reach ZERO by 2050.

The Challenge
The world currently counts more than 1.6 billion people riding (Powered) Two Wheelers ((P)TW), like motorcycles, mopeds and bicycles.
The WHO identifies this fast-growing group of traffic participants as the most vulnerable road users:
> Every year at least 400.000 (P)TW riders die, 15 Million are severely injured, at USD 245 billion.
> In over 75% of all fatalities, HEAD INJURY is the leading cause of death.
Two key factors mainly responsible for these high numbers:
1. Incorrect and non-use of often unsafe helmets by at least 50% of all (P)TW riders, due to lack of awareness and knowledge with all stakeholders
2. Poor post-crash response
This all needs change, if we are to reach ZERO traffic fatalities by 2050!
