The California Medical Detachment (CAL MED) is located on the U.S. Army Garrison Presidio of Monterey, which is located in the city of Monterey, California about 117 miles south of San Francisco, on the Pacific coast. The Monterey Peninsula has a rich history, and its rugged coastline is known for its natural beauty.
CAL MED provides safe, quality care to approximately 7,000 enrolled patients and supports The Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC), U.S. Army Garrison Presidio of Monterey, The Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), Naval Support Activity Monterey, The Fleet Numerical Meteorology, and Oceanography Center (FNMOC), and US Coast Guard Station Monterey.
With more than 120 staff comprised of both military and civilian healthcare professionals and support staff, CAL MED provides healthcare services to eligible TRICARE beneficiaries in the central coastal California area at:

Healthcare and health services CAL MED provides to enrolled patients include adult and pediatric primary care in patient-centered medical homes which partners with its patients for better health and wellness, X-ray, laboratory and pharmacy services, plus behavioral health, social services, and preventive medicine services. CAL MED partners with the TRICARE managed care support contractor and TRICARE network providers to coordinate primary and specialty health services to achieve optimum healthcare for its patients. CAL MED provides medical readiness health services for its service member patients.
