Buffalo Seminary (SEM) is an independent day and boarding school for college-bound girls, located in the historic Elmwood Village neighborhood of Buffalo, NY. Founded in 1851, SEM is one of the oldest schools for girls in the U.S., and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
We offer an independent, nonsectarian, college-preparatory curriculum and are a member of The New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS), The National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), The National Coalition of Girls’ Schools (NCGS), The Association of Boarding Schools (TABS) and the Small Boarding School Association (SBSA). We are an affiliate charter member of the One Schoolhouse Online School for Girls (OGS). Our average class size of 11 and Harkness table learning allows us to give personal attention to each student throughout her four years.
