Buffalo Energy was founded to facilitate the uptake of renewable energy in sub-Saharan Africa. We provide a bridge between investors and world class project opportunities in remote and inaccessible areas. With our headquarters in Lusaka, Zambia, we have a unique position as developers based on the ground to add significant value to projects. The team has extensive experience in the sector, and we pride ourselves on delivering projects of the highest technical quality.
WHAT WE DO
Utility Scale Project Development
Buffalo Energy develops grid connected solar PV, wind, hydro and biomass projects in Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique. We have a diversified pipeline with development rights to over 100MW solar PV, 40-200MW wind, and 15MW biomass projects in the region. We have been involved in, and successfully submitted 45MW of solar and mini hydro applications to the Zambian GET FiT programs.
Commercial and Industrial (C&I)
High operational costs due to excessive use of diesel generators and variable electricity tariffs can cripple a business. We offer a fully financed on-site solar PV solution that sells power back to clients at a cheaper electricity price than their current blended price of grid connected energy and diesel generator use. The company has been successful with competitive tenders in Zambia and is developing a pipeline of 3MW C&I solar PV projects.
Off-Grid and Mini-Grids
Currently, only around 50% of people in sub-Saharan Africa have access to power, with that number rising to 70% in Zambia. We are developing a pipeline of 35 mini-grid projects in Zambia, collaborating with other partners to bring added value and impact to rural communities alongside electricity. Community services may include asset leasing, battery distribution, cookstove provision and soil testing.
