Blacksburg Electronic Village, Inc. (BEV) is a community non-profit that developed from the original Blacksburg Electronic Village project in the early nineties. The BEV was a groundbreaking community broadband project that pioneered many Internet firsts, including the first residential broadband in the world, the first ecommerce applications, the first library with broadband access, the first business park with broadband as an amenity, the first school system with broadband, the first local government with an online presence, and the first "Ask the Doctor" Internet-based medical Web site.
