Yvette Brackman is a Copenhagen based American artist. Her complex and evocative work takes many forms such as installations, sculptures, performances, videos and text. She explores themes such as the relationship of the body to space and memory; the interaction between origin and trauma as a result of displacement and exile; cultural survival and adaptability and political systems and their consequences.
She has a Bachelor's degree in visual arts from The School of The Art Institute of Chicago and a Master's degree in fine art and art history, as well as a Certificate in Gender Studies from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She has been a professor and head of the Department of Mur and Space at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts 2000-2007. She lives and works in Copenhagen and has exhibited widely, both at home and abroad.
