Bi-Rite has been a San Francisco institution for over 80 years. Under the leadership of second-generation owner Sam Mogannam since 1998, Bi-Rite has embarked on a mission of Creating Community Through Food, striving every day to cultivate meaningful relationships with each part of the community, from our staff, to our guests, producers and partners, and the environment. Over the past 25+ years, the Bi-Rite Family of Businesses has grown to include three neighborhood Markets, including Bi-Rite Market Polk Street which opened in August 2024, a world-renowned Creamery, a creative Catering company, and a small farm.
The Bi-Rite family also includes 18 Reasons, a nonprofit community cooking school that hosts classes and dinners at the 18th Street classroom and runs a Cooking Matters program that offers free nutrition and cooking classes to low-income kids, teens, and adults throughout the Bay Area. Bi-Rite is a Certified B Corporation (since 2015) and recognized in the top 5% worldwide 'Best for the World' B Corporations for our community impact, a San Francisco Legacy Business (since 2019), a Real Leaders 100 Top Impact Companies (2019 and 2020), was recognized by Progressive Grocer as an Outstanding Independent Retailer in 2021 and 2023, and received the New Hope Community Purpose & Impact Justice Award in 2023.
At Bi-Rite we’re committed to creating spaces where everyone is safe, protected, and welcome. Racism and hate, in any form, will never be tolerated, so please only enter our doors if you can have an open heart and treat all people with dignity.
