Beacon is a platform that connects journalists with readers to fund stories directly. Over the past year, we’ve paid out more than $1,100,000 to journalists and currently have over 400 writers using the platform. We love working with news organizations to share these important projects, and to help stories reach a wider audience.
- We worked with Techdirt to raise $70,000 to cover the net neutrality battle in Washington, D.C.
- We helped The Huffington Post crowdfund more than $40,000 for a fellowship that will allow journalist Mariah Stewart to remain in Ferguson, Missouri, and cover the ongoing protests
- We crowdfunded more than $46,000 to launch Climate Confidential, a startup blog founded by a team of six experienced environmental journalists
- We helped The Texas Tribune crowdfund a 15-part series on the impact of the shale boom in Texas
- We worked with GlobalPost to send a Cairo-based reporter to investigate aid money in Gaza
- And more!
