Basecamp Foundation is a not for profit organization whose vision is to provide tourism based solutions for conservation and sustainable development in tourism destinations. Born out of Basecamp Explorers’ practical experience in championing a sustainable tourism concept that acknowledges the significance of local people and conservation in destination development, the Foundation provides a link between the non-economic and economic activities in tourism destinations.
Basecamp is an idea just as much as an organisation: An innovative and inspiring idea of developing destinations by approaching tourism and society in a holistic way, challenging traditional concepts of sustainability – and of business.
Basecamp Foundation (BCF) is part of the international Basecamp Group, operating within the global tourism industry. We constitute the Group’s implementing instrument for cultural and social development, within the context of sustainable destination development. Our counterpart and collaborator within the Group, Basecamp Explorer (BCE) is engaged with operating accommodation and offering adventures at chosen destinations, at the same time developing principles and demonstrating practises of responsible tourism.
Whereas BCE is a commercial enterprise operated according to sound business principles, BCF is an entirely non-profit endeavour building on a sustainability philosophy.
