Vision Statement:
To regenerate our Earth’s biosphere by empowering individuals to become ‘biospherians’ – people who understand that their life depends on changing the way we care for our natural world.
Our Mission is to mitigate the effects of climate change through ecological restoration and inspire a Healthy Biosphere Movement to ensure the right for all people to have clean air, water and food.
We focus on contagious sustainability -- the power of inspiring behavioral change through our beautiful, biodiverse demonstration gardens that are both underwater and on land.
Biosphere Foundation leads life-long learning programs that are applicable everywhere. Our programs train new practitioners how to steward ecosystem health and biodiversity, reclaim water, recycle waste, restore soil health, and grow food at home. We work hands-on or learning-by-doing.
We are all about changing the way we perceive our relationship with the world and how we care for it – ‘biosphere love’ alive in every head, heart and action.
About Biosphere Foundation is a USA 501 (c) 3 organization founded in 1991 for research and education; it owns a limited liability company (PT Biosphere Stewardship Center) in Bali Indonesia; and has a partnership with Yayasan Biosfir Indonesia (Jakarta) to carryout nature stewardship programs in Bali Barat National Park with the Ministry of Forestry and Environment.
We work from our Biosphere Stewardship Center and onboard MIR, our 113’ sailing vessel that is our flagship in the Coral Triangle region of Indonesia. Our programs are useful to all people and provide knowledge and skills to practice becoming a champion of our earth’s biosphere.
The Foundation is led by Abigail Alling and Mark Van Thillo, two of the 'Biospherians' who lived for 2 years (1991-1993) in Biosphere 2, a laboratory for the study of global ecology; and navigated by an international board of advisors.
