BIA Innovator Campus CLG is a new food innovation and incubator centre located in Athenry, Co Galway. Designed to enhance the strength, sustainability and resilience of our agri-food sector, the campus offers a range of food specific facilities, supports, services and experiences from one central location and is due to open officially in January 2024.
The genesis of the BIA Innovator Campus was a 2017 feasibility study commissioned by Galway County Council, Teagasc, Galway Roscommon Education and Training Board, Western Development Commission, Athenry Community Council, SCCUL Enterprises CLG and the Galway Local Enterprise Office. The feasibility study was unambiguous in the need for regional food workspace infrastructure along with a need for a range of technical, innovation and commercial supports.
The project is delivered with funding support from Enterprise Ireland, Department of Rural and Community Development, Galway County Council, Teagasc, Galway Rural Development/LEADER Programme and the Western Development Commission.
The BIA Innovator Campus consists of 3 buildings and spans more than 23,000 square feet.
The campus offers, 4 unique co-working food incubators (dairy, meat, seafood and multi product), 9 x independent own door starter units and 3 x independent own door high potential start up growth units.
In addition to the physical workspaces BIA also provides a powerful mix of technical, innovation, scientific and commercial supports to the food community.
The campus also contains:
• 60-seat auditorium with demonstration space
• 16 station Culinary Training Centre
• 12 hot desks to allow BIA tenants and non-tenants to work
• Buyer showcase room
• Several meeting rooms available for rent to tenants and non-tenants
In addition to providing a range of services to the food community the BIA team facilitates, produces and hosts several events and conferences focusing on food & beverage, entrepreneurship, and sustainability in Athenry. Co Galway
