Autin Dance Theatre (ADT) is an award-winning, interdisciplinary touring company based in Birmingham.
ADT is a collaborative ensemble of creatives who devise & produce aspirational, socially engaged & mass participatory movement projects regionally & internationally. Autin’s distinctive artistic voice draws on contemporary social issues (environment, community, relationships & identities) to make engaging, accessible, relevant performance work.
We aim to inspire, educate & instigate positive social change through highly responsive, multi-disciplinary art in theatres, outdoors & non-traditional spaces.
Our work ranges from extensive touring of our sensational outdoor show featuring a 13ft-tall puppet at international festivals to publishing children’s books about saving the ocean.
We lead CPD training for teachers & local creatives, deliver artistic commissions for professionals & vocational students across the UK & mass-participation community-led project like ‘Big Brum Boogie’. Our collaborative approach & company culture is people-focused, inclusive, socially conscious, & radical in its approach.
We’ve built an excellent reputation & high level of engagement at hyper-local & international levels with critically acclaimed productions; A Posi+ive Life, Dystopia, Square One & most recently Out of the Deep Blue. Our outreach programmes range from one-off workshops to full-length commissions & engage schools, youth centres, colleges & community groups across England. In Birmingham & the West Midlands, we lead several regional partnerships & collaborations including the sector development initiative Brum Pro Class (with DanceXchange, Birmingham Dance Network, Ace dance & music), education partnerships with Black Country Dance Hub (supporting ages 5-18 in priority areas in the Black Country) & Man Made Youth, a free bespoke, regional initiative with MAC Birmingham to support young male dancers in accessing high-quality art provision.
