For historical reasons, I'm keeping the description below. However, Areo is no longer accepting submissions or donations.
Areo is an independent digital magazine with an international readership, providing commentary on politics, society, science, culture and the arts. Our name is drawn from John Milton’s 1644 Areopagitica, a pioneering call for the freedom of the press. Richard Dawkins has called Areo “the place to go for unintimidated sanity in a bullying mad world,” while Steven Pinker describes us as “an invaluable niche in the marketplace of opinion—fresh ideas not found elsewhere, sharply argued and elegantly written.”
We are committed to free speech and universal liberal humanism and to combating identity politics, cancel culture and other illiberal tendencies in public discourse. Our contributors have included research scientists, award-winning writers, human rights campaigners and prominent academics. We are completely reader funded. Support us on www.patreon.com/areo
