Antikebaustoffe e.U. began as a small business trading with salvaged building materials in 2008. One common product was historic floor tiles. Historic encaustic floor tiles, made either of ceramic or cement, are a widespread element of historical 19th century architecture of the all across Europe. Because these tiles were produced by hand in dozens if not hundreds of different factories, there is a vast variety of different patterns, sizes and color combinations. The consequence of which was that it was near impossible to find salvage materials to match the customers’ requirements. Even with very common patterns it was hard to find the right quantities. In order to satisfy the demand of tiles for renovation and restoration, we began to custom reproduce tiles. Over the years we became more and more specialized in the reproduction of historic tiles, so that this has become the core of our business. 2015 we presented our “Vienna Collection” a selection of tiles that are common in all areas of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire. We have also added ceramic wall tiles to our product pallet. Although we are rapidly expanding we still take the time to help every customer find the right tile. Even when only small quantities are needed. Historic architecture and Tiles are our passion. It fulfills us with great pride and satisfaction to have a part in conserving beautiful historic architecture for generations to come.
