Amma Lines was incorporated in 1978. Inspired by the vision of Mr. B. Hanumantha Rao, a pioneer in Civil construction works in South India, Amma Lines was founded by Dr. Meka Vijay Paparao. An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, and a Nuclear scientist from the United States,
Amma Lines has executed a number of marine projects since inception. Amma Lines is one of the leading marine contractors of India focused in Port sector. In the past, the company has undertaken large works for several major ports such as Tuticorin Port, Ennore port (both breakwaters), Chennai Port (outer breakwater), JNPT, Mumbai Port and 65% of new jetties in Maharashtra state.
Amma Lines has long been known as the company that can solve complicated problems in difficult marine and engineering environments. That reputation has grown steadily as the company continues to attract the top clients - from Mitsui & Co of Japan, to L&T of India.
The company is the original promoter of the proposed Rewas-Avare Port, a deep water port in Maharashtra. It was given the lease to Build and operate its own private port on the BOOST (Build-Own-Operate-Share-Transfer) concession agreement of the Government of Maharashtra, which is now being jointly developed with Mukesh Ambani's Reliance group. The Rewas Port which is to be built in the Bombay harbor area will revolutionize Indian shipping and cargo by its features.
The company is a MCGM & PWD registered A1 Contractor.
The company works at giving its clients a better design, and faster and better construction for the long run, while saving cost and time. While most would think of this as impossible, that is where Amma Lines' reputation has been built by working for esteemed clients such as L&T, Mitsui and Co, NPCIL, Govt. of Maharashtra, Govt of Karnataka, Govt. of Tamil Nadu, & Hyundai Heavy Industries to name a few.
