Amazon Sustainable Forestry ("ASF") is a forestry management company with operations in Acre, Brazil. With over 40,000 hectares of forestland and sawmill operations in Rio Branco and Xapuri, Acre, we are the largest private employer in the communities where we operate - communities that before we arrived were living at below subsistence levels and entirely dependent on government handouts; communities that were destroying the forest because viable options were not available to them. Our experience operating in the Amazon has demonstrated that sustainable development through harvesting of the forests' renewable resources can diminish deforestation by providing tangible returns to the local communities.
