The Alzheimer’s Innovation Institute is a privately held late stage start up health care therapeutics company headquartered in Calgary, Canada. Founded in 2008 to research and develop therapeutic interventions to improve functioning and quality of life for persons living with a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease and other similar neurological disorders.
With no new Alzheimer’s medications coming onto the market in over a decade, family physicians have little to offer the increasing numbers of diagnosed Alzheimer’s patients. While we search for a cure the number of persons suffering from Alzheimer’s disease has reached 30+ million globally. Health care professionals including physicians, geriatric care nurses, speech therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and activity therapists all recognize the need for an evidence based therapy intervention that helps the patient function better for longer while reducing caregiver stress and burden.
Working with a talented team of neuropsychology trained therapists, researchers and writers research development and extensive evaluation of the AMM Dementia Intervention Program was completed in late 2012. The “AMM” program is a proprietary program of interactive cognitive exercises which are facilitated by a healthcare professional (or someone under their direct supervision) with the patient. The program uses integrated neuropsychology principles in an innovative way to stimulate the patient (the participant) to respond and interact with caregivers, family and their living environment in a more positive, more meaningful way. Significantly, this improves quality of life for people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, helping them stay out of hospitals and remain living in their own home years longer, closer to family, friends and familiar community based resources.
