Since 1954, Alcolin has been a trusted and market-leading DIY brand in South Africa and originated under Permoseal, the first company to launch Cold Glue to the South African market.
Permoseal was established in 1949 and launched Alcolin Cold Glue in 1954. In 1984, the Jacobs family acquired the business and moved the manufacturing plant to Montague Gardens in 1990, before establishing branches in Gauteng and Durban in later years.
Permoseal was the first chemical company in Africa to be awarded the coveted ISO 9001 quality management system accreditation and the company still manufactures according to ISO standards, having being awarded ISO 9001:2015 accreditation.
As the strongest brand in the Permoseal stable, Alcolin has remained the DIY market leader in South Africa and has maintained relevance throughout the years through continuous product improvements, new product developments and quality control of the highest standard.
On 1 July 2022, Permoseal was acquired by Arkema, a recognized world player in the field of specialty chemicals, who also acquired Bostik in 2015, the 3rd largest company in specialty adhesives in the world.
Through this acquisition, Permoseal was rebranded to Bostik South Africa, while the Alcolin brand continues to complement Bostik’s offering in the region.
Today, Alcolin is synonymous with quality DIY in South Africa. There isn’t a job or DIY project in the home that Alcolin products don’t cater for.
