Ako Mātātupu is an Indigenous-led social change organisation and initial teacher education (ITE) provider. We seek an Aotearoa in which every young person realises their potential. In service of this kaupapa we gather great people together to train as teachers and leaders in schools serving communities made vulnerable by structural inequities.
Our two-year flagship programme supports great people to become highly effective teachers and inspirational leaders, with a focus on re-indigenising education. The Teach First NZ programme provides carefully selected participants with the opportunity to make a meaningful impact while learning from a school community. Participants also gain strength and insight from our global community in the Teach For All network.
Our Kairapu (alumni) have gone on to serve schools as curriculum and pastoral leaders, as well as entering fields such as education and equity policy, research, and nonprofit advocacy. All of our Kairapu are united in seeking a fairer education system and society, and lend their unique strengths as they work with and through others for an Aotearoa that we can all be proud of.
