Aegis Trust is a world leading organisation in building peace and the prevention of mass atrocities. Aegis Trust’s leadership and education focused model is based on the transformational work the organisation has carried out in partnership with the community of Rwanda following the 1994 genocide.
Aegis Trust strategically operates at both a local and global level to achieve their mission:
At the local level Aegis carries out practical intensive intervention programs within countries where people are at risk of mass violence. This involves:
* Capacity building of local leadership, especially youth leaders, to have the skills to change the trajectory of brewing violence.
* Utilizing existing public education channels, such as schools, churches, events and local media, to counterbalance messages of fear and hatred, and promote peace.
* Responding to current issues through the use of informed and responsible advocacy on a local and global level.
At a global level, Aegis leads the field of Peace Promotion through research, education and leadership programs to achieve intergenerational, systemic change. This includes:
* Research and evaluation which contributes to the global knowledge base of ‘what works’ in peace education and the prevention of genocide.
* Developing youth-led, grassroots constituencies skilled in the promotion of peace.
* Providing advice and education for senior members of governments from multiple countries, including the UK and the USA.
* Working with leading academic institutes to integrate peace education concepts and discussions across multiple disciplines including health, education and economics.
