The Achievement School District (ASD) was established as a local education agency within the Tennessee Department of Education by the Tennessee First to the Top Act of 2010 with the district’s first cohort of schools officially launching in 2012. The district’s specific function is to serve as an intervention in turning around schools that require more attention and support in order to improve student performance.
The Achievement School District is comprised of schools that are directly run by the district’s staff and a larger subset of schools that are operated by charter management organizations (CMOs) that have been authorized by the district.
Mission: The Achievement School District authorizes charter schools committed to academic excellence, equity, and social-emotional development for all students.
Vision: The Achievement School District will equip every student with the knowledge and skills to take full advantage of future opportunities in citizenship, leadership, and life.
