AIDA uses the law to protect the environment and communities suffering from environmental harm throughout Latin America. A growing, international nonprofit organization, AIDA collaborates with communities and partner organizations throughout the Americas. Together, we advocate and litigate for environmental protection in national and international settings. AIDA builds regional capacity to defend the environment and vulnerable groups. We do this by disseminating knowledge, crafting winning legal arguments, strengthening policies and legislation, and creating model strategies for communities to enforce the law. Our work sets legal precedents that require and improve protections for the environment and the human right to a healthy environment.
In courts and other venues, AIDA brings expertise in international law to strengthen the arguments made by our local partners. In international forums, AIDA brings the voices of national organizations and communities to the table. AIDA’s legal experience, broad alliances, and physical presence in seven countries tip the scales of justice in favor of environmental and community protection.
AIDA envisions the day when the protection of ecosystems and the human right to a healthy environment are guaranteed to every person as the foundation of sustainable development in Latin America.
