Hydrogen will play an important role in the energy transition. The future demand for green hydrogen in Northwest Europe exceeds the capacity that can be produced locally from sustainable sources. That is why there is a need to import green hydrogen on a large scale. Gasunie, HES International and Vopak are combining forces and knowledge in the port of Rotterdam to develop a terminal for the import of ammonia as a green hydrogen carrier: ACE Terminal.
The planned terminal is strategically located with direct access from the North Sea, connection to Rotterdam's industry and Gasunie's pipeline infrastructure. The location offers an excellent starting position for the storage and transhipment of the green ammonia, the converting of the ammonia into green hydrogen, and the further transit of both ammonia and hydrogen to end users.
