Mothers, with an unexpected pregnancy, no support, no resources are abandoning their newborns, often resulting in death. Nick Silverio began the mission of saving newborns 21 years ago after the tragic loss of his wife of 32 years, Gloria, due to a speeding driver. Gloria and Nick were never able to have children of their own, experiencing two heartbreaking miscarriages, one on Christmas Eve. Their heart was filled with so much love and compassion that they were godparents to 14 children. During one sleepless night, Nick had an epiphany to commit himself to saving the lives of society’s most vulnerable, the newborn: thus, the Gloria M. Silverio Foundation was born. Through education, direct assistance and their 24/7 multilingual, confidential helpline, precious newborns have been saved from abandonment and are now living with their forever family. Over 5,000 women have been helped in their time of need/crisis. A Safe Haven For Newborns is a US 501 (c)(3) charity that was established in the state of Florida and today reaches across state lines, borders, and oceans – such as the countries of Panama and Honduras. A Safe Haven For Newborns does not charge for any of their services. They raise the funds needed through the generosity of their supports, individuals, and corporations, who pledge their donations by visiting the website. They also hold reoccurring annual fundraising events such as their virtual telethon and other in-person events throughout the year.
