Founded by two close friends and serial collaborators, 35mmyth has always seemed more like an ongoing inevitability than a “new idea”.
Gerod Bond, the collective’s writer/director, met Matthew Courchaine, the collective’s producer, at an acting class in early 2016. Gerod had initially stopped by to audit the course in an effort to learn more about the acting process, but found himself directing a scene at the instructor’s request. In this 2-minute demonstration, Gerod would direct Matthew and another actor towards an emotional build-up. It worked. Both Gerod and Matthew were impressed by one another’s attitude and respect towards the emotional power of filmmaking. After the class they exchanged numbers. Not long after that, Matthew would appear in one of Gerod’s projects… then another… then another.
By 2017, Matthew and Gerod would be collaborating on several projects at a time. 2017 & 2018 would see unprecedented growth for the partners through several sizzles and spec pilots. By 2019, the duo would be on track to release their very first series, “SoundClout”, a mockumentary about Atlanta rappers that would quickly accrue a local cult following. It even went on to be pitched to Adult Swim.
Once “SoundClout” was finished, Matthew and Gerod experimented with different filmmaking formats to find an angle for the future. In 2020, through endless obstacles, they garnered a spec feature, a music video for a high profile artist (Nessly), and several artist profiles for their prospective series “About-Me”. To finish out the year the duo created their own media production group, "35mmyth".
Once established 35mmyth continued creating in 2021 with artist profiles for local artist and business owners in Atlanta, and presently in post with our first feature length film, "In Pursuit of Flavor"
Gerod and Matthew continue to work together, now aiming to transform their history and filmmaking chemistry into a tangible brand that represents their most mutual interest: Story.
